Seeking contact with any possible descendants of Manus Grant originating from the Parish of Mullaghbane Forkhill South Armagh Northern Ireland. They were known in the area as the Watler Grants e.patterson@qub.ac.uk

--------------------

I am currently researching the origins of my family within the area of Armagh, louth and Down (primrily in the parishes of Mullabrack & Ballymore, Creggan, Forkhill and Newry in Armagh, Roche, Faughart and Innerskeen in Louth and also Innerskeen, Monaghan and Newry in Down.

From the evidence so far it appears that the Grants there are all decended from a Family of Stewart Grants that moved from Scotland with the Plantation between 1610/1630 (possible decended from a John Graunt (appears to be a misspelling on documents) on the 1630 Armagh Muster) or after the 1641 Rebellion ( possibly a James Grant of Scots birth who was related to and had served with General Robert Munro and General Alexander Leslie in Sweden and could be on the 1642/43 Scots Army Muster of Officers in Ireland). The Grants of the plantation appear to have held onto their farm lands under Cromwellian persecutions with their name on the records taking the Swedish/Norwegian spelling of Graant on the list of Adventurers.

My family are Catholic but due to family stories have not ruled out the possibility of a convert from Presperterian in the past. However James Grant may have been Catholic antway as I am exploring links with the Grants of Glenmoriston.

my own family have stories of a major disgrace in the family that led us to being Catholic. The Grants of Armagh and Louth appear to have come from Scotland during the 1641 rebellion with the Scottish Army. Being Presbyterian and supporting Cromwell they were given lands to farm. My family farmed these well into the mid 1800s when the"scandal" meant a split in the family with us moving to the North East of england and others in the family being spread to the New World.

My family originate from Dundalk, Co Louth of Scottish/Irish ancestry. John Grant, born 1833, is my Great Great Grandfather who was born there before moving to the North East of England. There are records of several Thomas Grants in the family and many emigrated to the USA.

Thomas Grant was born appx 1810 in County Louth, Ireland. Mary Thonton (his wife) was born appx 1812-1820 in County Louth, Ireland also. Thomas died in 1865 in Illinois and Mary died in 1857 in Illinois also.

----------------------

My branch of the Grants come from Dundalk in Co Louth only a few miles away from WarrenPoint. John Grant, my Great-Great Grandfather was born in 1833 and left for the North East of England in the 1850/60s.

The Grants were well estabilished in that area as Farmers. The DNA has shown close relatives in both Canada and Kentucky/Virginia/Tennesee.
