Dáil Éireann Proceedings - 19 May, 1965
Mr. Tierney asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Trench Estate, Lorrha, County Tipperary was sold some little time ago to a person (name supplied) at a time when the Land Commission were contemplating the acquisition of this estate; and whether the present owner has disposed of any of the lands of the estate recently.
Mr. Moran: The lands of Redwood containing some 338 acres—to which the Question presumably refers —were purchased by the person mentioned over 3 years ago, that is in February, 1962, at a time when acquisition proceedings by the Land Commission were not pending or contemplated. In 1963, an area of 58 acres approximately was sold with the consent of the Land Commission to a local purchaser.
Period Residence known previously as Motefield House Redwood Lorrha Co. Tipperary. The sale particulars around 2000 describe it as a period dwelling, comprising of circa 7,000 sq. ft. located in the unspoilt beauty of Mid-Ireland, near the historic village of Lorrha (Nenagh) Co. Tipperary, approximately 10 minutes drive from Portumna town and Lough Derg and within easy commute of the heritage town of Birr, Nenagh and Roscrea.
Sited on circa 3 acres, while this residential dwelling has wonderful period features, which are testament to an age when attention to detail was paramount, part of this property is in a highly desirable state of neglect with unmistakably original unblemished features! The present owners have refurbished part of the property and are currently residing there, however, the remaining part of this property needs some major refurbishment to bring it back to its full splendour! Are you up to the challenge?
From Birr, take the Galway (Portumna) Road. Approximately 8 miles take the first turn signposted for Lorrha. Go to the GAA pitch, take a turn left and follow down the lane to the property.
