From Rootsweb "My Grandmother was born Musselburgh 1879 to a dentist, James Hutchison Proctor, and his wife Elizabeth Cockburn Carstairs. James must have gone mad because he emigrated to Canada in 1882 with his large family leaving a lovely home and two servants behind. They shivered together through the long winter nights at their homestead in the wilds of Manitoba but were a hardy lot and survived."
Elizabeth Cockburn Carstair's mother was Jane Stuart Thomson, the first wife of Matthew Carstairs, another Master Plumber of the New Town. She died November 18, 1848 at 37 and she could be the one buried at Biggar Kirk although her siblings and parents seem to have been Edinburgh people.
