Jean Purves was born in Edinburgh City in 1752. She marries at Colinton to Michael Blair ( gardener from Kinghorn, Fife) in 1771. Their children are all born between 1772 and 1780 at Colinton. By 1802 when their eldest daughter married, her husband was a gardener at Arniston, so one assumes they were living there at that time.

If one accepts she came from Edinburgh, as in her marriage certificate (below), then there are 2 possibilities for her birth in the records that exist. With no other information, I cannot say with any certainly that either option is "our" woman, it could be either. The fact that she calls her eldest daughter "Janet" probably means that David Purves and Janet Neilson are her parents.
31/05/1750 Jean Purves daughter to Thomas Purves and Elizabeth Purves of Edinburgh
City
26/01/1752 Jean Purves daughter to David Purves and Janet Neilson of Edinburgh
City
Her brothers and sisters therefore were the children of David Purves and Janet Neilson
1741 born 13/12/1741 Robert Purves
1744 born 04/04/1744 James Purves
1746 born 18/05/1746 Hugh Purves
1749 born 04/12/1749 Isobell Purves
1752 born 26/01/1752 Jean Purves
1755 born 11/02/1755 David Purves

The only marriage on ScotlandsPeople is 19/05/1771 Michael Blair to Jean Purves with banns at at Kinghorn, Fife. Michael Blair is described as of the Parish of Kinghorn. And Jean Purves of "Haddos Hole Parish" , which is the Edinburgh City Parish of St Giles Cathedral

Their children are born in Colinton (suburb of Edinburgh) between 1772 and 1780.

Then we catch a glimpse of them in 1802, when their daughter’s marriage details show that Michael Blair is a gardener at Arniston in 1802. His daughter meanwhile is in Argyle Square, Edinburgh
At that point I loose the thread as to what became of Michael Blair and his
wife Jean Purves
